ANNOYING FUCKERY

Advancing civilization one eliminated stupidity at a time.

About & Manifesto

Improve humanity by identifying unnecessary stupidity, exposing it through humour, and keeping score until somebody fixes it.

Annoying Fuckery is a consumer-advocacy and cultural publication devoted to a single unglamorous task: finding avoidable stupidity, describing it accurately, and refusing to look away until it is corrected.

We are not a complaint board and we are not angry. We are curious, occasionally profane, and extremely persistent. Our subjects are small: a welded package, a menu three taps deep, a support system that cannot read a calendar. Our method is not small. Every case is sourced, dated, scored and offered to the responsible party for reply before publication.

Humans are astonishingly clever creatures who periodically do unbelievably stupid shit. Let’s identify it and stop doing it.

The satire lives in the framing, never in the facts. We do not invent allegations, we do not exaggerate evidence, and we do not publish a number we cannot explain. If we find that something apparently idiotic exists for a legitimate reason — a safety regulation, a thermal constraint, a genuine trade-off — we say so on the case page, at full volume.

When we are the fuckery

Corrections are published on the case page they belong to, with the original claim intact above them. Where we got it wrong, the correction reads exactly as it should: “We investigated further. We were the fuckery.”

What we are ultimately for

Ridicule is a tool, not the product. The product is a fixed problem. When a company corrects something, we reduce the score, mark the case FUCKERY ELIMINATED, and add to the humanity index. Those are our favourite pages.

Editorial principles

  1. 01Attack the fuckery, not ordinary people.
  2. 02No political ragebait.
  3. 03No tragedies for entertainment.
  4. 04No personal vendettas.
  5. 05Give responsible parties an opportunity to respond, always.
  6. 06Correct mistakes publicly, at the same size as the original claim.
  7. 07If something apparently stupid exists for a legitimate reason, say so.
  8. 08Celebrate people and organisations that fix problems.
  9. 09Humour should expose stupidity, never replace factual accuracy.

Witnessed Fuckery?

Submissions are reviewed by an editor. Most become nothing. Some become a case that changes a company’s behaviour.
